Neurofibromatosis type 2 D

چکیده
Neurofibromatosis type 2 is an often devastating autosomal dominant disorder which, until relatively recently, was confused with its more common namesake neurofibromatosis type 1. Subjects who inherit a mutated allele of the NF2 gene inevitably develop schwannomas, aVecting particularly the superior vestibular branch of the 8th cranial nerve, usually bilaterally. Meningiomas and other benign central nervous system tumours such as ependymomas are other common features. Much of the morbidity from these tumours results from their treatment. It is now possible to identify the NF2 mutation in most families, although about 20% of apparently sporadic cases are actually mosaic for their mutation. As a classical tumour suppressor, inactivation of the NF2 gene product, merlin/schwannomin, leads to the development of both NF2 associated and sporadic tumours. Merlin/ schwannomin associates with proteins at the cell cytoskeleton near the plasma membrane and it inhibits cell proliferation, adhesion, and migration. (J Med Genet 2000;37:897–904)

Segmental Neurofibromatosis Type 1, a Rare Variant of Neurofibromatosis: Report of Two Cases
Segmental neurofibromatosis type I (SNF-I) is a rare variant of neurofibromatosis (NF). It is classified as NF type V and defined as cafe'-au-lait macules and/or neurofibromas in a single ,unilateral segment of the body .We report two cases with SNF-I with striking similar manifestations.
متن کاملUnilateral and multiple nodular plexiform Neurofibromas: An uncommon presentation of Neurofibromatosis type 1
Plexiform neurofibroma is a rare variant but pathognomonic of von Recklinghausen disease. We report an uncommon presentation of neurofibromatosis type I in a girl. This 11-year old girl had multiple plexiform neurofibromas on her left hand, and also several Lisch’s nodules. Classification and clinical features are discussed briefly with emphasis on the possibility this condition may not be give...
متن کاملPrimary Intracranial Malignant Nerve Sheath Tumor in the Cerebellopontine Angle in a Woman with Neurofibromatosis Type 2
Neurofibromatosis type 2 is an inherited disease. The main manifestation of the disease is the development of symmetric, non-malignant brain tumors in the region of the cranial nerve VIII usually as schwannoma. We report here a 20-year-old woman with primary intracranial malignant nerve sheath tumor located in the left cerebellopontine angle. Histologically, the tumor showed malignant spindle c...

Even though neurofibromatosis ( NF) is not a rare neurological disorder, but there is few studies regarding the relationship between NF and psychological disorders. A 14 year old girl with NF type 1 associated with multiple cerebral lesions was admitted in psychiatric ward due to restlessness , hypertalktiveness aggressive behavior, and flight of idea. Psychiatric diagnosis, based on DSM IV ...
متن کاملA review on 17 cases of type I Neurofibromatosis associated with malignancies
Background: Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) is a relatively common autosomal dominant condition. Among the complications of the disease, such as neurological disorders, hypertension and skeletal deformities, malignancy is the most serious one and is the main cause of early death in these patients. Objective: Review of cases of NF-1 associated with malignancies. Patents and Methods: In a retrospective...
متن کاملThe molecular genetics of neurofibromatosis type 1 and its future prospective
Abstract Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant tumor predisposition syndrome that is caused through loss of function mutations of a tumor suppressor gene termed neurofibromin 1. Therapeutic decisions are presently restricted for NF1-associated tumors, where treatment is often restricted to thorough surgical resection with perfect margins. In this review article, the multif...
